Visit of Major General Sir Eric Bertram Rowcroft, KBE, CB to Vauxhall Motors, Luton

Major General Sir Eric Bertram Rowcroft, KBE, CB, Director of Mechanical Engineering (DME), visited Luton on 17 January 1945 to present a plaque commemorating liaison throughout the war between REME and the makers of Bedford Trucks and Churchill Tanks. The photograph shows Sir Charles Bartlett, Managing Director of Vauxhall Motors, receiving the plaque, the inscription on which reads: “In recognition of the close association and ready help received from Messrs Vauxhall Motors Ltd. From the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers 1939-1945.”
